Another season passes

The summer flew by. And fall has been gloriously kind to us. But it has blown away with the changing wind and the cold beckons the slower months. Stacking wood and making fires, retreating within in, out of the darkness.

A lot has happened over the past five months. It has been intense, eye opening and inspiring.

This was my first year as coordinator for the Madawaska Valley Studio Tour. It was a busy but wonderful year. We had a fun treasure hunt and studio tour draws. We saw many new visitors to the tour as well and many returning supporters.

A big thanks to everyone that made it out and visited us in our studios, to see new work, watch demos and learn how pieces are made. These are magical places with treasures to be found. Mark your calendars for next year July 21-22 & Sept. 29-30 Hope to see you then! www.madawaskastudiotour.com

The Killaloe Craft & Community Fair was another wonderful time. Many friends and family coming together for a weekend of camping, music, workshops, dancing, kids activities and the famous parade!

Looking forward to next year!

September 28th was the Grand Opening of the new location of La Guilde in Montreal. I was excited to be included in the  Opening Exhibition "Hot Matter" and speak in their lecture series. I have a new kimono in this exhibition titled "Blossoming" This exhibition is on until Nov. 25th if you happen to be in Montreal.  www.laguilde.com

I was very hounored to win the Kent and Doug Farndale Award of Excellence during the Craft Ontario Awards on October 12th in Toronto. This recognition means a lot. Craft Ontario

Looking forward as the weather shifts and the landscape  fades into natural earthy greys, yellows and greens. I look toward new directions and new work. Toward a time of hibernation and rejuvenation as I learn to slow my rhythm like the sap in the trees and take time to develop and grow new work about identity and our connection to the land we live on.

Busy times

The beginning of this year has been full and very exciting. Here is a glimpse of these exciting times and news of some things to come.

Whirlwind

There has been a whirlwind of projects going on since the snow melted. This summer has flown by with deadline after deadline keeping life at a high speed pace. These projects have been wonderful and exciting....and have kept me coasting along, allowing me to resurface and come back to life as an artist after the consuming process of creating life! and moving home and studio.

The ms Koningsdam of the Holland America Line set sail this April with my Golden Blossom kimono in the Tamarind restaurant. Thanks to International Corporate Art for their commission!

Opening of the Pierre Lassonde Pavilion of the Musée National des Beaux-arts du Québec June 23 2016.

Tao and I drove to Quebec City for this exciting event.        To have one of my floor dresses "Into the Forest" apart of the opening exhibition and displayed with François Houdé's piece meant a lot. It also has other significance to me as I have a great grandmother and grandmother buried in Quebec and I think they would be moved and proud to know I accomplished something that they were told was impossible because art was just for Sundays.....

Agora Gallery's Summer Exhibition - Stratford, ON

I have a new kimono in Agora Gallery's popular Summer Exhibition, opening Saturday, June 25 from 7 to 9pm.  The exhibition features work in a range of media - drawings, paintings, sculptures, glassworks, mixed media, limited edition prints and photography - by some of Stratford's best artists, including: Ruth Abernethy, Marion Anderson, Susan Benson, Tom Campbell, Glenn Elliott, Scott Fillier, Renata Fitzgerald, Kathryn Friis, Jacob Grodzinski, Antony John, Gloria Kagawa, Chris Klein, Victoria Lewis, Antonie Los, Tanya Lyons, Jim MacDougall, Scott McKowen, John Pennoyer, Kathi Posliff, Stacey Stuart & Lesley Walker-Fitzpatrick.

The exhibition will run until October 23 and change throughout the summer: as artworks are sold, new pieces are put on display, so keep popping into the gallery see new work by your favourite artists.  Join us to hear exhibiting artists talk about their work Sundays @ 11am throughout the summer.  Gallery hours are Wednesday to Sunday from 11am to 5pm (and often until 8pm when there are evening performances at the Avon Theatre).

Coming Home ......to the enchanted land.

On September 9th my solo exhibition opened. This show had been two years in the making and reflects where I've been and where I am now. In life and my work.

It's always amazing and magical when a show comes together! This exhibition means a lot to me and continues to move me each time I visit it. I have been fortunate to have a two month exhibition giving time to its existence and potential to be seen!                                                       The first floor exhibits what I have been doing for the past 20 years and the upstairs gallery is the here and now and where I am going.

On at the Railway Station in Barry's Bay until October 30th Open Wed. - Sat. 10-4

The Countdown Public Art Project to end sexual violence against women

This summer I was honoured to be invited by Red Dress productions to make glass pebbles for this public art project in our community.

On September 12th I held a glass pebble making and pebble sorting day. It was wonderful to see the community coming together to be creative and work on large scale art.

Last but not least I am working on a new series of Kimonos!

Life is a work in progress ....and there are many peeks and valleys as we ebb and flow finding our way. But life is what you make it and everyday I am moved by the possibilities....   so If you want to be happy. Smile.

tiny bottles

I have been having a lot of fun blowing these tiny bottles on the torch. They echo my favorite form in glass the "amphora" which is also the first forms I made in glass many years ago.

I started making these bottles for my healing forest in my upcoming solo exhibition but have discovered thanks to my sister Kristen, that they also make great essential oil defuses..... and for even more fun they can be wearable vases!

resurfacing

After many life transitions, the biggest and most consuming being motherhood. I am resurfacing and coming back into the light.

I have moved back to my home town community to raise my daughter and open a studio where I can develop my ideas about creativity and expression with glass and found objects.

The Glass House which I have been renovating for the past year and a half is the location of my studio as well as many future projects and pop up events. I plan to develop this space into a place of creativity and healing through workshops and retreats for individual growth and development.

I have a studio boutique which is open by appointment and this summer I will be opening my studio to the public during the Madawaska Valley Studio tour, at this time I will also be doing demonstrations on the torch.

With this growth comes a new website. www.tanyalyons.ca Here you will be able to see where I've been and where I'm going. I have also added a gallery/shop feature which will allow me to have an online gallery of my available work.

I am also excited about and busy preparing for my upcoming solo exhibition at the South of 60 Arts Centre, in Barry's Bay, ON, Canada. It will be titled "Coming Home...to the enchanted land" opening Sept. 9th and running until Oct. 30th. This exhibition will reflect what I have been doing in glass for the past 20+ years as well as feature new work.

These are busy times of change. I hope all are well, coming out of this winter and changing into spring.                           A time of shedding the layers, feeling the sun and breathing in the new life with the fresh air...                           new beginnings bring many dreams....

I am excited about the path I am on and look forward to whats to come.
